Cardboard and Plastic Recycling
For many years we have recycled all cardboard and plastics using a pressurised baling system. Firstly we sort the materials into cardboard, clear plastic, black plastic and hard plastics. Once sorted, the materials are put into our crusher and then compacted a bit at a time until we have a full bale. The bales are then palletised and when we have about 30 bales, our local recyling depot comes to collect the bales and recycle them further.
In 2010 we recycled 360 bales of recyclable material which amounts to approximately 72 tonnes.

Recycling Rainwater
In 2009, during the development of our new retail area, we installed a large rainwater tank connected to a large network of underground pipes designed to take the rainwater from our newly paved outdoor plant area to the rainwater tank. The rainwater will be used to water our plant area through our irrigation system connected to the tank.
Recycling Glass Bottles
We recycle thousands of glass bottles every year. We store them on site and periodically take them to the recycling depot in Brecon for further recycling.
Recycling Food Waste
We have now implemented a scheme to recycle our food waste from our coffee shop. The waste is collected weekly by the local council and recycled in the appropriate manner.
Re-Using Pallets
In any normal week we receive a number of pallets which some firms will burn when they have been unloaded. We store all pallets and offer them back to our suppliers to reuse over and over again.
Carrier Bags
We have reduced our carrier bag consumption dramatically over the past year. We have recently had our own reusable, woven bags produced and have given these away free of charge to our reward card members.
Toner Cartridges
As you can imagine we get through a number of laser, toner cartridges with all the printing we have to do for signage, admin etc. All of our laser toner cartridges are returned to our suppliers under a scheme that then re-conditions the used cartridges for re-use, thus reducing the need for the plastic cartridge to go straight to landfill.
It is important that we look to the future and do all that we can to reduce our carbon footprint. You can be assured that we will be doing everything we can to help the environment.
