Gardener's Tips - November

Keep mowing. Dont neglect the lawn over winter. The lawn may still require a cut to keep it even but dont cut it too short.

Wrap up for the winter. Either place pots in fleece jackets or put in the greenhouse over winter.

Finish planting spring flowering bulbs

Rake up autumn leaves from around the lawn and borders

Wrap grease bands around fruit trees to catch winter moths

Clean greenhouse glazing, staging and finish lining with bubble wrap

Store hoses and other watering equipment in the shed over winter

Ensure terracotta and glazed pots are raised off the ground using pot feet which will prevent frost damage

Wrap insulation around outside pipes and taps

Keep an eye on the bird table ensuring there is enough food for our native birds

Open Day 2008 To get in the summer mood we stoked up the BBQ and provided our hungry visitors with traditional hotdogs and beefburgers during the day. Our evening guests were waited upon by our wonderful team of girls in the coffee shop who were providing various savoury and sweet nibbles.

Our open days revolve around families. Here at the Old Railway Line Garden Centre we beleive that we should try and provide interest in gardening from an early age.

During the open day we held a treasure hunt and gardening quiz, both on a gardening theme which proved extremely popular with our younger visitors. Perhaps not this young though!!

Outdoor Plant Area packed with Shrubs, Trees, Perennials, Alpines, Conifers and More

Open Day 2008 Eventually we closed the gates at 9.00pm, I think the boss could have settled down here for the night! We hope you all enjoyed the open day and look forward to organising another one later on this year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our excellent team of staff for all their hard work preparing for the open day and ensuring it run as smoothly as it did.

What you thought about the open day...

Dear Mark, Christina and All Staff

We would just like to say a big "Thank You" to you all for a very enjoyable evening, everyone worked so very hard to make it so. We hope it was a great success for you and Usk House, and look forward to other evenings with you all

Yours Sincerely, Babs and Reg
