The Waste and Resources Programme
We believe looking after the environment is extremely important.
We have been granted funding to pay for an assessment of waste produced by our Railway Restaurant.
A management consultant from The Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) Cymru will be visiting our restaurant to assess how much waste we produce. They will then put their findings into a report for us with recommendations on how we can reduce the amount and make cost effective savings.
The Welsh Government has set a target to achieve zero waste by 2050 and every business participating in the WRAP Cymru project will contribute to the achievement of this target.
We currently recycle food, glass, plastic and cardboard in recycling bins. We also have an extensive system in place that was installed to remove any grease from the pipes leaving the kitchen area.
Cooking oil is taken away by one of our customers with a duty of care waste transfer note and is re-used as fuel.
We are looking forward to working with WRAP Cymru to minimise the waste we create and reduce the amount sent to landfill.

Due to the success of our workshop we have planned some more events (Wild Wednesdays) through the easter holidays so if your stuck for a local activity then pop along and see us here at the garden centre.

We Have Raised £3500 for Macmillan Cancer Care
We are pleased to announce that we raised a total of £3500 for Macmillan through a variety of events and overwhelming support from our customers. After the leg waxing event of 2012 we wondered how we were going to beat the 2012 total of £2000. Mark (The Boss) came up with a great idea that the staff could do a sponsored slim which would be supported by the garden centre. In total (including Ruby the Dog) the combined weight loss was 119Lbs for which the garden centre sponsored £10 per lb in weight. The rest of the money was raised from a charity raffle, coffee morning and sponsorship for the cardiff 10K run!
Well done to all the staff and customers for their support! Who knows what we will do next year!!

Some of the staff from Welsh Fruit Stocks in Rhosgoch we on hand to give advice on growing soft fruit bushes etc and the coffee shop girls had baked some exciting new cakes and the favourite Jam and ream scone with fresh strawberries. £1.00 from every afternoon tea was donated to the charity. Jordan was in charge of the cream whipping competition, the fastest person to whisk 200ml of double cream won a planted strawberry planter. Everyone had a great time, the weather wasn't too bad and we managed to raise a tremendous £500 for the Breast Cancer Awareness charity. Thanks to all those that make the weekend possible and to our customers for venturing out on what was a pretty dull day.
